Five themes for ecostylistics

چکیده
Abstract Fundamentally, meaning is organized along two dimensions, similarity and contiguity, corresponding to areas of the brain primarily responsible for language processing, Wernicke’s area Broca’s area, respectively. Modern culture has tended overemphasize dimension through money/commodification in capitalism, mathematics science, with disastrous ecological consequences. Ecostylistics can celebrate analyze themes linguistic patterns poetry novels which challenge this overemphasis. Five such are suggested article. To counter overemphasis on (1) individuation. area’s contiguity (2) dynamic process, (3) interrelatedness communication natural world. However, concentration local contiguities time, manifest contemporary English-speaking novel, distracts from global (4) long-term change. (5) The dimensions also metaphor, challenges conventional similarity-based classification, narrative, expands beyond clause. These illustrated by poetic examples Wordsworth Edward Thomas, detailed analysis following texts: Gerard Manley Hopkins’ “As Kingfishers Catch Fire” “Nature a Heraclitean Fire”; Thomas’s “The Word”, Alice Oswald’s “Sonnet” “Birdsong Two Voices”, and, returning text whose Michael Halliday was seminal Stylistics, William Golding’s Inheritors . Transitivity within framework Systemic Functional Grammar used throughout, connections made quantum physics, Daoism, other process philosophies.

Unifying Themes for Network Selection
In this paper we present efficient deterministic and randomized algorithms for selection on any interconnection network when the number of input keys (n) is ≥ the number of processors (p). Our deterministic algorithm runs on any network in time O(np log log p + T s p logn), where T s p is the time needed for sorting p keys using p processors (assuming that broadcast and prefix computations take...

متن کاملThe five preferences for post-traumatic SAH
Acute traumatic brain injury is a worldwide public health crisis. Post-traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a finding that is present at a frequency of 40% according to data from American TCDB (1,2). Among the mechanisms that have been implicated as causes of post-traumatic SAH is the cortical bleeding through the subarachnoid space. It is estimated that the incidence of post-traumatic SA...
متن کاملInteraction Design for Active Bodies: Two Themes
Our physical bodies play a central role in shaping human experience in the world, understanding of the world, and interactions in the world. Reality-based interfaces promise to better leverage the capabilities of our bodies in humancomputer interaction. In two themes, thinking through doing and thick practice, we introduce aspects of human bodily engagement with the world that designers of inte...
